 HESLERTON v FORGE VALLEY           

In this there first season in the “Premier” Division, Heslerton lifted the League championship after a rain interrupted match on their own ground against Forge Valley who in turn were desperate for points to avoid the treat of relegation. The home team batted first and on a damp pitch found runs a premium being 20-0 after 11 overs when heavy rain drove the players from the field. The players defied the weather to roll on the covers and sheets before mopping up afterwards to make the match able to continue all be it being reduced to 30 overs each side. On the resumption Alex Carrie was caught by Josh Gretton off Andy Holden for 16, Tony Watson was run out for 35 but Heslerton’s saviour was Matt Baillie who batted brilliantly to remain unbeaten on 65 his innings included 3 sixes 4 fours. After 30 overs the home team were on 166-6, Andy Holden having claimed 3-62. After an immediate turn round, the tea interval having been taken during the break for rain, Valley lost Nigel Kendrew and Josh Cooper to Kristian Wilkinson with 6 runs on the board. Charles Tindall 31 and Dave Morris 25 took the total to 58 before being parted, Tom Benthall catching both in the deep off Adam Spaven in a vain attempt to boost the scoring rate. From then on Heslerton were in total control but new after hearing other scores they needed to take 8 wickets to have a chance of the championship and Valley required one batting point to avoid the possibility of a play off for relegation with Kirkbymoorside. Heslerton were successful thanks to Adam Spaven claiming 5-50 but the visitors fell short being all out with one ball remaining for 91.

Area Semi-Final Heslerton v Woodhouse Grange played at Heslerton on Sunday 29th May 2011

Woodhouse Grange 149-4 (A Anderson 49, T Young 34, C Suddaby 25no) beat Heslerton 146 all out (D Wharton 43, J Keyworth 22, A Carrie 19, D Suddaby 4-15, C Suddaby 3-34) by 6 wickets.

Heslerton were made to fight for every run and slipped to 47-5 after 17 overs. Jake Keyworth 22 and Daley Wharton boosted the score to 116 before Wharton was bowled by D Suddaby after hitting 7 fours during his knock of 43. Finally bowled out in the 40th and last available for 146 D Suddaby claiming 4-15 from 8.5 overs and C Suddaby 3-43 from his 9 overs. Replying Woodhouse lost their first 2 wickets for 62 in the 14th over but opener Andrew Anderson maintained the momentum before being caught by Kristian Wilkinson off Adam Spaven for 49. T Young was the fourth wicket to fall after scoring 34 with the total on 118 leaving C Suddaby 25 and M Shepherd 11 to knock off the runs with 5 overs remaining to be bowled. Paul Kinghorn proved the most successful bowler claiming 2-40 from his allotted 9 overs.

Heslerton v Walton played at Walton on Sunday 22nd May 2011

Heslerton 156 - 8 (A Spaven 41, K Wilkinson 23, A Whincup 4-20, A Mahmood 3-21) beat Walton 152 - 6 (D Rock 64, A Whincup 24 n.o.)
by 2 wickets

Walton made a poor start against some good bowling from Adam Spaven and Kristian Wilkinson slipping to 27-4 after 12 overs. D Rock boosted the total with an aggressive 64 before he was caught by Phil Triffitt off Mark Dring with the total on 116-6. Undefeated knocks from A Whincup 24 and J Birdsall took the final total to 152-6 with Daley Wharton and Mark Dring claiming 2 wickets each. In reply Kristian Wilkinson hit 23 but the main thrust of the innings was built around Adam Spaven before he was bowled by D Rock in the 20th over for 41 with the total on 69. All the remaining batsmen chipped in before the winning run was scored with 5 balls remaining for the loss of 8 wickets. The next round will be played at Heslerton on Sunday 29th May against Woodhouse Grange starting at 1-30pm.

Heslerton v Alne played at Heslerton on Sunday 1st May 2011

Heslerton 207 – 6 (A Watson 37, A Carrie 36, J Keyworth 53 n.o., K Wilkinson 23, D Wharton 27) beat Alne 204 – 9 (R Proudley 74, E Myers 42, N Hancock 23; D Wharton 3-55) by 3 runs.

The Heslerton openers Tony Watson 37 and Alex Carrie 36 were not parted until Watson was bowled with the total on 84. Carrie soon followed but number 4 Jake Keyworth held the team together remaining unbeaten with 53. Kristiam Wilkinson chipped in with 23 leaving Daley Wharton to increase the scoring rate near the death hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours during his 27 out of a final total after 40 overs of 207 – 6.

Replying Alne made slow progress, opening bowlers Adam Spaven and Kristian Wilkinson only conceding 12 runs each from their first 6 overs. R Proudley 74 and E Myers 42 increased the tempo putting on 82 for the 4th wicket but when Proudley was bowled by Mark Dring 80 runs were required from the final 10 overs with 6 wickets in hand. At the start of the 40th over Alne were just 15 runs from an exciting victory with the last pair at the wicket but Mark Dring held his nerve restricting the visitors to 11 runs and victory for Heslerton by 3 runs.
